The 2026 class is glowing after the commitment of Savion Hiter on Tuesday. He's the second-highest rated recruit that Sherrone Moore and company have reeled in over the last two years. Hiter puts a cap on another top-10 class that is pretty much set in stone. Michigan fooball can move on to the 2027 group that doesn't have a five-star yet.
However, before signing day approaches, Michigan football is still recruiting Davon Benjamin, who is committed to Oregon. Steve Wiltfong of Rivals mentions that Michigan is aiming to flip the five-star defensive back. How much NIL will the Wolverines be willing to dish out to make Benjamin rethink his choice? Benjamin would be the cherry on top of the Big Ten's best class in 2026, leap-frogging the Buckeyes.
Michigan football off to a strong start in 2027 recruiting class
Regarding the early returns in the 2027 cast of characters, Peter Bourque committed before Elijah Haven was ready, which effectively meant that the Wolverines won't land Haven, who is projected as one of the top quarterbacks in the process. Although Michigan's boosters could produce another Brady Hart/Bryce Underwood situation if so inclined to nab Haven from the SEC again.
Michigan is also jumbled in the mix with several elite prospects who are considered at the apex of the 2027 cycle. Michigan has an offer out to ESPN's No. 1 overall player in the country, Kennedy Brown from Texas. Keon Sabb's brother, Xavier, also holds a scholarship offer from the maize and blue. In the meantime, someone is bound to leap from four to five-star status over the course of their senior year who is already committed or remains uncommitted until they make their intentions known for Michigan.
There are high choices for a pair of receivers that are just road trips away from Ann Arbor. Two pass catchers who are on the cusp of five-star status include Dakota Guerrant and Monshun Sales. They are both ranked in the top 10 wideout list on both 247sports and On3.com. First things first, though, Michigan must win on the field in 2025 to gain more traction.
