The Wolverines had a massive day on Tuesday, Aug. 19, when five-star running back Savion Hiter committed to Michigan. However, there was more to the moment than the team simply landing a blue-chip recruit.
When he announced his decision, Hiter was surrounded by his family, and everyone was wearing matching Michigan gear for the announcement. Following his commitment, Hiter and his entire family broke down in tears of joy for the young athlete.
Hiter is the No. 1 running back and the No. 8 overall prospect in the class of 2026, and the work that both he and his parents have put in has officially paid off. All of that effort clearly came to the forefront of their minds on Tuesday.

The young running back was praised throughout his recruitment process, and even on his decision day, as he remained quiet while visiting various programs and didn't play games with any teams, unlike some players who pretend to put on another program's hat before donning the gear of their future team.
To put it lightly, the Michigan Wolverines should be beyond excited for Hiter to join their backfield in the next year.
Following his commitment, Hiter took to social media to share his own thoughts on his decision, saying, "I'M HOME #GoBlue," on X (formerly Twitter).
Hiter isn't the only player who the Wolverines will be able to lean on in the future, even when you narrow it down to elite athletes in the backfield. Already, five-star quarterback Bryce Underwood is expected to be the starting QB for Michigan as a true freshman.
Underwood, who celebrated his birthday on Tuesday, alongside Hiter's commitment, committed to the Wolverines as the No. 1 quarterback in the class of 2025. Now, Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore has landed two top offensive stars in back-to-back years.
While Hiter won't join the Wolverines until the spring or summer of 2026, Underwood will lead Michigan through its 2025 season, which kicks off on Saturday, Aug. 30, against the New Mexico Lobos. The game is scheduled to kick off at 7:30 p.m. ET on NBC and Peacock.
