Earlier this week, it was reported that Michigan football would host top-100 running back Javian Osborne for an official visit over the summer.
Osborne, a 5-foot-10, 195-pound running back from Forney, Texas, is ranked 59th overall in the 2026 class according to the 247 Sports composite rankings. He's also ranked as the fourth-best running back.
Texas has been viewed as the favorite to land Osborne, the No. 8 player from the Lone Star State in the 2026 class, but Michigan football is certainly a top contender and there is a new wrinke in the recruitment that could give the Wolverines an edge.
Tashard Choice, the Texas running backs coach is reportedly taking a job with the Detroit Lions, meaning that the primary recruiter of Osborne won't be on the staff anymore. Choice who coached Jahmyr Gibbs at Alabama, was a huge reason the Horns had a leg up in this recruitment.
It doesn't mean that Osborne will end up as a Michigan Wolverine, but it should give Michigan a better shot in this recruitment, especially with the relationship Tony Alford, the running backs coach has built.
Michigan is also viewed as a contender for five-star running back Savion Hiter. With the way the Wolverines like to run the ball, it makes sense. Sherrone Moore is all about "Smash" and U-M could have a special running back class in 2026.
Four-star quarterback will visit Michigan football
Speaking of the 2026 class, the Wolverines are seeking a quarterback commitment and four-star Brady Smigiel is one of the top passers on their radar. Chip Lindsey has been putting work in and Smigiel is set to visit during the spring game according to 247 Sports. The spring game was just announced this week and that'll be a chance for U-M to assert itself as a contender.
UCLA, Washington, and South Carolina are the other schools that the four-star quarterback will visit during the spring but it's a good sign for the Wolverines at any rate.
