Michigan football has some momentum going into the Ohio State game following a 50-6 win over Northwestern. Yes, it was just Northwestern, but that was still the best the Wolverines played all season.

When you are a 10-point favorite against a conference opponent and win by 40, it's a good day. It was a reminder of what this Michigan football team was supposed to be. It hasn't been that, but that team on Saturday would have beaten Washington, Illinois, and maybe even Indiana.

Hell, the Wolverines still nearly beat Indiana on the road and they didn't even play their best game. So there's hope for Saturday -- if Michigan football can play even better than it did last week.

Beyond that, winning "The Game" usually comes down to one thing: Running the football. The more physical team and the team that controls the line of scrimmage -- see the past three years -- wins this matchup and that will be the key for Michigan football pulling off a historic upset on Saturday.

The key to a Michigan football upset over Ohio State

“I think the biggest piece of this game is the rushing battle, and I think you’ve seen that every year. The team that wins the rushing battle wins the game. I know that we focus on the same thing, so that’s got to be an emphasis for us," Sherrone Moore said Monday via The Wolverine.

“We’ve got to do our jobs up front. Obviously, our guys played really well last game. I thought they played with great technique, great fundamentals, great eyes, discipline. They’ve got to do that this game and do it at an even higher level.”

Feeding the ball to Kalel Mullings from the start of the game will be key. Donovan Edwards needs to have a role too, including in the passing game, and the Wolverines have to be able to run on the Buckeyes, which will be much easier said than done.

Michigan's offensive line has struggled, while Ohio State has one of the best run defenses in college football, allowing just 90 yards per game and 2.7 yards per attempt.

However, if Michigan is going to win "The Game" it has to win the rushing battle. The team that does that wins and that will likely be true again Saturday in Columbus.
