Every Saturday morning, college football fans are awoken by the voice of ESPN's Rece Davis as he hosts College GameDay alongside a slew of personalities, including Pat McAfee and Nick Saban.
While Davis isn't known for his boisterous personality or legendary coaching resume, he is known for his high-level football IQ and his takes that often pan out to be reality.
Following the firing of Sherone Moore as Michigan's head coach, Davis shared his thoughts on who should be the next leader of the Wolverines, and it's honestly worth a second look.
Rece Davis may have named Michigan's next HC
"If I were in Warde Manuel and Michigan’s position, I’d have David Shaw very high on my list," Davis wrote on social media. "Given the circumstances, likely atop the list."
Of course, the Michigan Wolverines have seemingly gone through one scandal after another under athletic director Warde Manuel, who is now tasked with finding Moore's successor. Davis thinks Shaw, who is currently the passing game coordinator for the Detroit Lions, would be a good fit.
Shaw played football at Stanford and was the Cardinal's head coach from 2011 until 2022, when he resigned from the position. Since then, he spent a year as a senior personnel executive for the Denver Broncos and was hired by Detroit before the 2025 season.
His ties to the state of Michigan should have immediately piqued the interest of Manuel and the Wolverines, especially as one of the more successful coordinators at the NFL level, leading Lions' quarterback Jared Goff to 3,672 passing yards and 29 touchdowns through the first 14 games of the year.

Davis might have truly hit the nail on the head by suggesting that Manuel hire Shaw as the Wolverines' next head coach, and Michigan fans should truly keep an eye on the Lions' coordinator over the next week or so.
