Well, it's official, Sherrone Moore is out as the Michigan Wolverines' head coach just two seasons into his tenure and just two years after the team won a National Championship with him as an assistant and as an interim HC.
Michigan already linked to worst coach possible after firing Sherrone Moore
Despite his 15-8 record over the last two years, alongside his postseason victory last year and the team's spot in the Cheez-Its Citrus Bowl this year, the Wolverines decided to ax their head coach.
Now, the Wolverines have to start looking for a replacement, and they're behind the ball by quite a bit, with even the Penn State Nittany Lions finally finding a replacement for James Franklin.
However, Michigan is one of the most attractive jobs in the world of college football, so with that in mind, here are the three candidates the program must reach out to immediately to try and land them as the next head coach:
While the Texas Longhorns fell short of expectations this season, their defense was as dominant as ever, led by defensive coordinator Pete Kwiatkowski.
Head coach Steve Sarkisian may call the plays on the offensive side of the ball, but the defense is run by Kwiatkowski, and his football IQ is the exact kind of thing the Wolverines need to reorganize a team that has a rapid fall from grace.
Not to mention, wouldn't it just be awesome to poach a team's coordinator right before playing them in a bowl game?
Joe Brady made a name for himself when he transformed Joe Burrow into the quarterback he is today in order to lead the LSU Tigers to their 2019 National Championship.
Since then, Brady has done similar work with the Buffalo Bills and quarterback Josh Allen, even though he hasn't won another title quite yet.
His ability to develop and control an offense could work wonders for the Wolverines, and Brady should undeniably be one of the first calls made by Athletic Director Warde Manuel.
Not only is Jesse Minter already beloved by the Wolverine fanbase, but he also has the experience and winning mindset necessary to run a program like Michigan.
Minter was the Wolverines' Defensive Coordinator from 2022-23 and was part of Jim Harbaugh's staff that secured the 2023 National Championship, alongside Moore. However, instead of staying in Ann Arbor, he followed Harbaugh to LA to become the Chargers' DC.
The allure of becoming the head coach of the Michigan football program could be just the thing to bring Minter back to Ann Arbor, reuniting him with the Wolverines.
