Things up looking up for Michigan football with 5-star offensive tackle
It has been an exciting time for Michigan football recruiting. On Monday, the Wolverines landed two recruits ranked in the top No. 118 overall within about an hour of each other.
That was an impressive haul. Michigan football still isn't recruiting at the level that it could be, but Sherrone Moore and this staff were put at a disadvantage.
For weeks after winning the national championship, Michigan football didn't know who was going to be the head coach. Jim Harbaugh seemed poised to leave for the NFL and Michigan acted quickly after he did but Moore wasn't the head for most of the 2025 recruiting cycle.
Most of his assistants were hired later in the process too. A big part of recruiting outside of NIL, is building relationships. Michigan football got to that part late and has done a stellar job in the 2025 class. There are three top-100 commitments already and more could be on the way.
Andrew Marsh got a new crystal ball projection to Michigan football this week, but also, there is chatter that Andrew Babalola, a 6-foot-6, 280-pound tackle out of Kansas who is ranked 27th overall in 2025, is set to make a decision.
Stanford and Michigan are the top two teams and on The Michigan Insider recruiting podcast, the guys talked about Babalola and more than one said if they had to pick now, the Wolverines would be their pick.
Sam Webb of The Michigan Insider had this to say about how a decision soon favors U-M:
"I would too. Right now, today, I think a quick decision, a near decision favors Michigan. So, if he does decide soon, I think he'd go blue and that would be a massive land. I'm trying to think of who's comparable along the offensive line to that land."
Babalola would be the first five-star commitment since Will Johnson and it would be hard to criticize the 2025 Michigan class if U-M adds him the current haul.
