There is smoke that Davis Warren will be Michigan football starting QB
The Michigan football quarterback battle has been a dominant topic of conversation amongst fans since the spring.
Alex Orji and Davis Warren started to separate themselves in fall camp. Recently, the competition was called a "two-horse race" by the Big Ten Network.
Pete Thamel reported last week that Alex Orji was the expected starting quarterback. The expectation has been for both quarterbacks to play.
However, it's starting to feel like Davis Warren will be the first quarterback under center against Fresno State. The Bulldogs will likely get a dose of both quarterbacks. Offensive coordinator Kirk Campbell did say Alex Orji would have a role in the offense, even if he doesn't start.
Orji was trending to be the starter not long ago, however, according to a report from Chris Balas of The Wolverine, Warren had a better week of practice.
There have been other posts on social media about people hearing that Warren was going to be a quarterback but not from verified sources.
Thoughts on Davis Warren starting for Michigan football
Michigan has to be able to throw the ball this season. If not, they'll see 8-9 man boxes and Warren has been throwing the ball well according to reports and if that continues, the move makes sense.
Warren should at least be able to replicate what Cade McNamara did in 2021. Michigan football would also have Orji as an option, just like that team used McCarthy. Sherrone Moore has even said that two-quarterback systems can work. They have worked at Michigan.
Orji will have to throw the ball. Otherwise, it will be too easy for teams to know what Michigan is going to do if he doesn't, but with Tyler Morris, Semaj Morgan, Fred Moore, Colston Loveland, Donovan Edwards, and others, this pass offense could be explosive.
It all comes down to the quarterback and while both are expected to play, it feels like Davis Warren will be the starting quarterback.
