The biggest question facing Michigan football on Saturday is who will be the starting quarterback. Head coach Sherrone Moore didn't shed any light on Monday during his press conference for the Fresno State game, but he did say that he feels good about the quarterback room.

There have been positive reports about the play of Alex Orji and Davis Warren this fall. Orji is the "expected" starter but Warren, a former walk-on, hasn't made it easy.

“We’re close,” Moore said via The Wolverine. “We’ll figure that out soon, though. We’re in a good place. We’ll just see who practices better these next couple days, and then we’ll make a decision — whether it’s Friday, whether it’s right before the game. We’ll let them know, then everybody else will find out at the same time.”

Moore didn't commit to announcing the starting quarterback before the game. That would be a classic Jim Harbaugh move since Harbaugh also didn't announce the starting quarterback for his first time until just before kickoff.

It sounds like both players will play though and Moore left open the possibility of using both quarterbacks this season, which is made easier because Orji is an elite runner, while Davis is a better passer.

“I’ve been a part of it. I’ve been a part of it here,” Moore said of using two QBs. “I’ve seen it work. I’ve seen it not work. We’re just going to do whatever it takes to win. I don’t think there’s really a ‘yes’ or no’ or what’s better, what’s not. You go back to the years of Chris Leak and Tim Tebow  [at Florida] — it worked pretty well for them. There are teams that have done it and it hasn’t gone well, so we’ll just figure out what our best formula is to win.”

My prediction is that Alex Orji starts on Saturday and wins the job with his play. That doesn't mean that Davis Warren won't be a solid backup, but if Orji can prove himself as a passer, he's going to be the quarterback and that starts Saturday in the season opener.
