Michigan football has a new head coach and will have a new starting quarterback but the standard won't change under Sherrone Moore.

One thing was clear on Thursday as Michigan football head coach Sherrone Moore addressed Big Ten Media Days for the first time, the standard won't change.

"We want to win the big games. We want to beat Ohio State. Win the Big Ten championship and get to The College Football Football Playoff and win it."

What Moore said on Thursday echoes what he has said since he got hired to replace Jim Harbaugh: the standard won't change.

Sherrone Moore addresses O-line and QB battle

Michigan football has plenty of question marks, at least from the outside looking in. The Wolverines have 10 new starters on offense and one of those will be the quarterback.

J.J. McCarthy who started the past two seasons, is in camp with the Minnesota Vikings right now. So he'll have to be replaced and there were a few candidates mentioned by Moore on Thursday such as Alex Orji, Jack Tuttle, and Davis Warren. Jadyn Davis and Jayden Denegal are also in the mix.

It seems that the first three are the top contenders though, especially since Kirk Campbell, the offensive coordinator, recently said that Orji is one of the "best 11" players on offense for Michigan football.

Moore didn't say much about the quarterback battle. He did say that “The Ideal timeline is when we feel we have that guy that’s going to help us win. It’s not really a date; not really a time" as far as making a decision or an announcement.

Jim Harbaugh was coy about the starting QB numerous times during his career. I believe if it's clear, Moore will name a starter. If not, the competition could bleed into the season.

Moore's appearance checked all the boxes. He talked about the culture, which was vital to winning a national title and three straight conference championships, and also about the offensive line which has been essential to U-M playing championship football.

“And being the head coach, obviously having the offensive line background, I’m going to take a lot of pride in making sure that line is ready to go when we hit game one," Moore said via The Wolverine.
