Alex Orji is one of 'best 11 players' on Michigan football offense

Michigan football hasn't named a starting quarterback but Alex Orji will play even if he's not the starter according to OC KirK Campbell.

The Michigan football quarterback battle has been a hot topic of debate among fans and pundits this offseason. It's hard to know who will emerge as the starter or how productive they will be.

I have been advocating for Alex Orji as the starter or at least, some sort of platoon that features Alex Orji and maybe veteran Jack Tuttle. Davis Warren is in the mix too and if he can translate what he did during the spring game to fall camp, and do it more consistently, he'll have a shot.

Tuttle, a former four-star recruit, also has plenty to prove. He hasn't started more than a handful of games in his career, but looked good in relief last season. Tuttle only attempted 18 passes though, so not enough to feel confident going into the 2024 season.

One thing we do know is that Alex Orji is a dynamic runner. That was evidenced by his usage down the stretch last season for Michigan football. He got on the field against Ohio State, and basically every game after that, including the national championship game.

If Orji can win the starting quarterback job, that would probably be ideal for Michigan football. He's a true dual-threat and does have a big arm. He just needs to work on being more accurate, more consistent, and better decision-making.

Michigan football has a plan for Alex Orji

Regardless, offensive coordinator Kirk Campbell made it clear that Orji will have a role on the offense, even if he's not the starting quarterback.

"Alex is one of the best 11 players on offense," Campbell said to The Wolverine. "He's gonna have to touch the football. We will have a plan for him to touch the football."

With an offensive line that should be among the best in the Big Ten, plus what I foresee as an elite running back duo, adding Orji to the mix will make the running game nearly impossible to stop. And if he can throw the ball with accuracy, watch out.
