Michigan football projected to land blue-chip running back in 2026
Things have been trending up for Michigan football in the 2025 recruiting class over the past two months, and now, things are starting to look even better in the 2026 class.
The reality is that Michigan football will have most of its recruiting in the 2025 class taken care of by the time the season starts. That's just the way the timeline works.
There were some key recruits on campus last weekend for the Michigan football recruiting BBQ. Some 2025 recruits received the most fanfare, but the Wolverines had a bunch of recruits on campus in the 2026, 2027, and 2028 classes and it's already paying off.
More momentum in 2026 for Michigan football recruiting
Earlier this week, Michigan football landed its second commitment in the 2026 class as four-star cornerback Brody Jennings out of Jacksonville, Florida. The 6-foot-1 cornerback is ranked No. 271 overall according to the 247 Sports composite rankings.
It really feels like the Wolverines can put together a strong class in 2026, maybe the best of the past five years or so. Michigan football has momentum right now and as long as the Wolverines can put together a solid first season under Sherrone Moore, recruiting could really take off, especially now that the Wolverines are much more competitive with NIL.
In terms of the latest expert projection, Michigan football has been projected by EJ Holland of The Wolverine to land four-star running back Javian Mallory. He's ranked No. 187 overall in the 2026 class according to the 247 Sports composite rankings.
Out of Boca Raton, Florida, Mallory rushed for over 1,400 yards last season and is a true home-run hitter. His offer list is impressive too and includes Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, Ohio State, Notre Dame, Ole Miss, Oregon, USC, Tennessee, Nebraska, Florida, Florida State, and others.
After Holland's projection, the On3 prediction machine gives Michigan an 87-percent chance of landing Mallory's commitment following his visit for the BBQ. The Wolverines already have two blue-chip commitments in 2026 and if Holland is correct, a third could be on the way.
