Following two years of lackluster recruiting, things finally seem to be getting back on track for Michigan Football. The Wolverines have gained tons of momentum on the recruiting trail, and are set to possibly gain even more in the coming weeks as top targets such as Jordon Davison, Andrew Olesh, Hardy Watts, and Taz Williams are set to announce their commitments soon.

Michigan footbal already has two top 100 commits in its 2025 class, and is set to add more. For the first time in a long time, Michigan is a true contender with tons of elite recruits. The Wolverines have been slowly fixing their NIL, and it seems to be finally paying off. Stability at the head coaching position is also likely playing a role.

What will it take for Michigan to end in the top 10?

In 2024, according to 247 Sports the threshold to be in the top 10 was 275 points. Michigan finished 16th with 261. The point system rewards quality much more than quantity, emphasizing the importance of elite recruits. Currently in 2025, Michigan has 206 points with 12 commits.

If Michigan football lands the players it is currently favored for - Andrew Olesh, Andrew Marsh, Hardy Watts, Taz Williams, and Phillip Wright, the Wolverines will be at 250 points with only 17 commits. As it stands currently, that would put the Wolverines in the top 5 nationally.

Michigan could then finish around the 275 point mark in a few different ways. They could either miss out on their top targets - guys like Andrew Babalola, Nathaniel Owusu-Boateng, Shamari Earls, Ivan Taylor, etc... and load up on middle of the pack recruits. At that point, it would take somewhere around 8-10 additional commits for Michigan to reach 275, depending on the caliber of the recruits.

It's definitely plausible, especially given how many players transfer each year nowadays. Teams generally want larger recruiting classes in todays game, so that is a very viable path.

Preferably, however, Michigan would land it's top targets, and would add an additional 2-5 top 100 recruits. Adding Babalola and Owusu-Boateng alone would get Michigan right around the 275 mark, which shows how important quality is.

All of this means that if Michigan can win some of these highly contested battles, they could finish this cycle very highly ranked. Being in the top five is not out of the picture. I believe that ending up in the top 10 is more likely than not this season, which is a breath of fresh air that this program needed.

It would be fantastic to see the Wolverines earn a top five spot, but whether or not that is viable remains to be seen. This is an exciting recruiting period that could be phenomenal for Michigan. Keep an eye out for any updates. Go blue.
