The Big Ten seems to be imploding with each passing week of college football, and the National Championship streak could be in jeopardy. Oregon, one of the teams many believed had a good shot at making it and possibly winning the National Championship, has fallen to 4-3, the same as Michigan, after what many would say was an embarrassing loss to Illinois.
Yes, the Ducks are without star quarterback Dante Moore due to a concussion he suffered against USC, but even when he was playing, this offense struggled big time. So much so that after the loss to an Illinois team that has one of the worst defenses in the country, the Ducks chose to part ways with offensive coordinator Drew Mehringer.

Now, Michigan fans may be wondering why the heck they should care about Oregon firing its OC, other than the fact that they face the Ducks in November. Well, there is another reason this is a benefit for the Wolverines. Five-star wide receiver Dakota Guerrant, who committed to Oregon back during the summer, could rethink his decision.
This could be Michigan's best shot at making a play for 5-star WR Dakota Guerrant
The news of Mehringer's firing is still pretty fresh, so there haven't been any rumblings of Guerrant truly considering a flip for his commitment, but this is where Michigan head coach Kyle Whittingham needs to make a big push for the in-state kid.
Guerrant was by far the biggest loss for Whittingham on the 2027 recruiting trail, but a visit back at the beginning of the season, when the Sooners were in town, was a great showing for the Wolverines. Now with the Oregon offense in limbo, Guerrant could choose to flip somewhere else, maybe even choose to stay closer to home.
The bad news is that Michigan's offense isn't doing much better than Oregon's right now. The Wolverines are struggling with poor quarterback play, which doesn't bode well for a recruit whose stats and ability to get better rely on how the quarterback performs.
Michigan was a top team on Guerrant's list, and of course it was; he grew up less than an hour away from Ann Arbor. If Whittingham could get Guerrant to flip to the Wolverines, it could help his job as well, especially with fans clamoring for him to be fired after the 4-3 start.
There is still time for Michigan to put on some good showing this season, especially against Oregon in November. The Early Signing Period is quickly approaching, so if Whittingham is going to make a move for Guerrant, it needs to be now.
