Wednesday was a good day for the Michigan Wolverines. Michigan football signed offensive tackle Ty Haywood, cementing the No. 6 class in 2025 according to the 247 Sports composite rankings.
However, the Michigan basketball team also notched an important win over Oregon. Thanks to a pair of Michigan State losses, the Big Ten title race has Purdue, Michigan, and Michigan State separated by one game in the win column. Purdue is 10-2, while Michigan and MSU are 9-2.
There weren't many fireworks on college football's national signing day but like we said, Michigan football put the finishes touches on an elite class -- one that includes 17 four-star recruits according to the 247 Sports composite rankings.
It's an impressive haul that features six signees ranked in the top 100, 11 in the top 200, and 14 in the top 300 overall. According to Steve Wiltong, a top recruiting expert for On3.com, Michigan football isn't going anywhere and will be a powerhouse on the NIL front.
“I think the root of is, they are not going to lose on the NIL front anymore,” Wiltfong said. “They are going to have a loaded gun when they go into these blue-chip battles. Now Bryce Underwood almost doesn’t count — that was another level of recruitment there. But a Nate Marshall, flipping him from Auburn down the stretch, getting Ty Haywood in the fold at the end of the cycle. And then when you flip Shamari Earls and Jordan Young. These are the types of recruitments that we haven’t seen Michigan win.”
Sherrone Moore signed the No. 6 class and he wasn't even on the job long enough to call it his first full recruiting class -- that will be 2026 and Michigan football fans should be excited about what's to come.
A key game for Michigan Wolverines women's basketball
The Michigan women's basketball team has a huge game on Thursday night in Lincoln against Nebraska basketball. The Huskers (7-4) and Wolverines (6-5) are part of a logjam in the middle of th Big Ten women's standings.
U-M is fresh off an 80-48 win over Oregon. Olivia Olson had 18 points and 10 rebounds in the win. Mia Holloway added 19. Syla Swords had just nine points and the Wolverines will need her to be her best against a 16-6 Nebraska team that's on the bubble according to ESPN's latest bracketology projections.
Michigan women's basketball is currently a No. 8 seed in the ESPN projections and beating Nebraska would qualify as a quad-1 win. Tip-off is set for 9 PM EST on Peacock.
Sherrone Moore listed as a top 20 coach in college football
There have been a couple of rankings of College football head coaches by Ari Wasserman and Andy Staples of On3.com. Wasserman ranked Sherrone Moore 19th. The Michigan football head coach is fresh off an 8-5 season but notched a pair of top-11 wins, including beating No. 2 Ohio State.
Moore technically has three career top-10 wins as a head coach, since he beat Penn State and Ohio State as acting head coach in 2023. Andy Staples has him ranked 17th and here's his explanation, as well as reasoning for why Moore will be ranked higher in 2025.
"I suspect Moore will be much higher on this list next year. I’ve made clear that I believe Michigan’s offensive struggles last year were due to the timing of Jim Harbaugh’s exit, but Moore was the previous offensive coordinator and the offense was pretty awful as the Wolverines lost five games. Still, the way Moore galvanized his team to beat Ohio State and then took a depleted roster to Tampa and beat a mostly intact Alabama suggests he can create a culture that will win big when it has the necessary personnel. Now that Moore has had a full recruiting cycle and winter portal cycle, he should have that."
