The Minnesota Vikings have gone all in on former Michigan football quarterback J.J. McCarthy, and according to what we have seen so far in Vikings training camp, it looks like a good idea.

The Vikings just opened training camp this week, but McCarthy has already been turning heads. He opened camp with a touchdown pass to Justin Jefferson. He followed it up with another impressive throw on Wednesday.

McCarthy was drafted 10th overall by the Vikings in the 2024 NFL draft, however, he suffered a season-ending injury after just one preseason game.

But after passing on the chance to re-sign Sam Darnold, or land Aaron Rodgers, the Vikings have put their faith in McCarthy. So far, fans have reason to be excited.

Of course, Michigan football fans know how great McCarthy is. There has never been a quarterback who wore the winged helmet who played better during his time in Ann Arbor.

Big Ten Media Days

The Michigan Wolverines will get their turn at the podium on Thursday with Sherrone Moore taking the podium in Las Vegas at Big Ten Media Days at 3:45 PM EST. Max Bredeson, Derrick Moore, and Ernest Hausmann are the players who will be in attendance.

We looked at seven major storylines for Michigan football heading into Big Ten Media Days, if you're looking for a primer.

Miami targeting a Michigan football commitment

Alister Vallejo is ranked No. 320 overall according to the 247 Sports composite rankings, but Michigan football fans know how good he is.

The dude getting compared to Mason Graham at 6-foot-3, 310 pounds out of Liberty Hill, Texas, was offered by Miami on Wednesday night.

You always worry about the Hurricanes and their NIL prowess, but Michigan more than holds its own in that arena. I'm not overly worried about Vallejo, especially since Lou Esposito, is one of his primary recruiters.

Still, it's something to keep an eye on, so is the possibility of the Wolverines offering a Michigan State commitment in the 2026 class.
