Michigan football just signed an elite recruiting class in 2025. Now, the Michigan Wolverines are turning their attention to 2026.

The Wolverines landed the No. 6 class in 2025 according to the 247 Sports composite rankings. It features two five-star recruits and 17 blue-chip prospects total.

It's as impressive a class as Michigan football has signed since the days of Lloyd Carr. It's as good as any recruiting class Jim Harbaugh signed, considering Bryce Underwood and the highest-rated offensive tackle in program history (Andrew Babalola).

Just imagine what Sherrone Moore will do with his first complete recruiting class which is 2026. He was hired late for the 2025 cycle and still did some special things.

So far in 2026, things are off to a strong start. Five-star running back Savion Hiter, a 5-foot-11, 182-pound running back out of Mineral, Virginia, ranked 17th overall, recently included the Michigan Wolverines in his top five and according to EJ Holland of On3, Hiter has locked in an official visit with Michigan football this summer.

Georgia, Ohio State, Penn State, and Tennessee are all listed as "warm" on his 247 Sports recruiting profile but Michigan football seems near the top, if not in the lead.

In other recruiting news, Gregory Patrick, a four-star offensive tackle from Portage, Michigan, who is ranked No. 168 overall in 2026 and second in the state of Michigan, has also locked in an official visit. This is according to Greg Smith of Rivals. Patrick will also visit Penn State, Notre Dame, and Michigan State. He's 6-foot-4.5 and 278 pounds.

There aren't any crystal ball projections for either recruit at this time, although Rivals did recently project Michigan football to land Hiter.

Michigan women's basketball gets a huge win

The Michigan women's basketball team has flown under the radar a little bit this season but the Wolverines got a huge win on Thursday night, knocking off Nebraska, another team in the NCAA tournament mix, 78-60 on the road.

Not only does it count as a quadrant-1 win, but the Huskers were also one game ahead of Michigan in the Big Ten's women's basketball standings. Greta Kampschroeder led U-M with 18 points. Syla Swords added 15, while Jordan Hobbs had 14 points and three assists.

Michigan is now 16-7 on the season and 7-5 in the Big Ten -- the same record as Nebraska -- but the Wolverines are trending in bracketology and this will only help.

Michigan football expected to lose assistant to NFL

The Wolverines have lost a few coaches to the NFL over the past few years, and another assistant is expected to leave as defensive analyst and outside linebackers coach Kevin Wilkins is expected to be hired by the Jaguars.

Wilkins followed Wink Martindale to Michigan. He was an asset last season working with outside linebackers and game-planning but when you have success, other jobs come calling.

I'm interested to see who Sherrone Moore targets as a replacement.
