Kyle Whittingham has the Michigan football program humming on the recruiting trail, thanks to another significant commitment on Wednesday.
Whittingham went into Notre Dame's backyard (Chicago) and landed one of the best wideouts in the 2027 recruiting class, Quentin Burrell. It wasn't that long ago that the Fighting Irish were the favorite.
Michigan has now landed four blue-chip commitments in the last month, with three of them ranking in the top 125 overall. It started with the pledge of QB Kamden Lopati.
The good news for Michigan fans is that the Wolverines' run of recruiting success is far from over. Besides two other four-star recruits trending in favor of U-M, another major target in the 2027 class with a commitment date coming in July, could be moving in the same direction.
Seth Tillman, a 6-foot-2, 295-pound defensive lineman, who is ranked No. 131 overall, released his top five on Wednesday, and Michigan made the cut.
Michigan football made a move recently with a highly-touted D-line target
Georgia, Clemson, Kentucky, and South Carolina are the other teams that made the final cut. Tillman has a commitment date scheduled for July 11th.
Clemson is set to get the final official visit for June 12th. Michigan will host him on June 5th, with visits to South Carolina and Georgia coming before that.
Clemson is the favorite via the Rivals Recruiting Prediction machine, but the Tigers have just a 30 percent chance. Ethan McDowell reports that Michigan is putting on the "full court press."
It seems to be working. Chad Simmons of Rivals quoted McDowell's post and said that Michigan "made a move."
There will be more work for Michigan football to do. You can feel the optimism growing. The Wolverines also just got Tillman on campus for an unofficial visit. Yet, Georgia, Clemson, South Carolina, and Kentucky got him on campus in the past month, too.
That makes it hard to identify a true favorite. The Wolverines have momentum on the recruiting trail. That matters, and we'll see if that momentum extends to Tillman.
