Michigan football is still waiting on the first commitment under new head coach Kyle Whittingham, but it's only a matter of time.

The Wolverines started spring ball this week. That means there will be spring visitors coming over the next few weeks, leading up to the spring game next month.

Recruits have already started visiting, and one who was on campus this week is four-star Alabama commit Colt Lumpris. The 6-foot-6, 225-pound tight end out of New Jersey is ranked No. 292 overall, according to the 247 Sports composite rankings.

Alabama landed his commitment back in December. Lumpris was also offered by Ohio State, Florida, Florida State, Tennessee, and Michigan, among 20 total. The talented tight end up told The Wolverine"They care about me as a person. It’s not only about football."

Alabama and Texas A&M are set for official visits. Getting him back to Ann Arbor for an official visit will be the next objective for the Wolverines, but it sounds like this first visit went really well.

Notre Dame, others targeting Michigan football commitment

Lou Esposito IV re-committed to the coaching staff after Whittingham was hired. His dad was still a Michigan assistant then. He has now taken a job with the Ravens.

That could impact the recruitment of his son, a three-star offensive lineman in the 2027 class. He's ranked No. 940 overall, according to the 247 Sports composite rankings at 6-foot-5, 285 pounds.

Regardless of the ranking, Michigan is going to have to fight to keep his commitment. Allen Trieu of On3 reports that Notre Dame, Iowa, USC, and Penn State. He has scheduled an official visit with Michigan, and also took an unofficial visit this week.

It feels like Michigan is on solid footing here, but some other big names are targeting Esposito, so they need to keep to working to hold them off.
