Michigan football has been working on flipping three-star athlete/linebacker Markel Dabney from SMU, and it appears that the Wolverines might have pulled it off.
The 6-foot-1, 205-pound athlete who is ranked No. 785 overall, according to the 247 Sports composite rankings in 2026, has been committed to SMU since May; however, after visiting Michigan football twice in the past week, he says an "announcement" is coming on Saturday.
That's not a great sign for SMU. It's never a good sign if a recruit committed to your program is announcing a commitment. But it's a good sign for the Wolverines. Dabney is an intriguing athlete and someone who has the ability to play linebacker on all three downs.
Pittsburgh, SMU, Virginia Tech, and Penn State were the other programs scheduled to get official visits, but it doesn't appear that all of those will happen now.
Dabney has been projected to flip to Michigan football by EJ Holland of The Wolverine.
More Michigan football targets set commitment dates
Four-star safety Chace Calicut, a 6-foot-3, 190-pound defensive back ranked No. 162 overall in the 2026 class, according to the 247 Sports composite rankings, will decide on June 27th between Michigan football, Georgia, and Texas.
Calicut just visited Michigan football and will visit Texas this weekend. He's from Houston. Four-star wideout Travis Johnson also set a commitment date for July 4th. He's been trending with expert projections from 247 Sports and On3 in favor of U-M.
The 6-foot-3, 185-pound wideout, who is ranked No. 144 overall in 2026, according to the 247 Sports composite rankings, has three crystal balls in favor of the Wolverines. Steve Wiltfong, Chad Simmons, and EJ Holland of On3 have projected Johnson to the Wolverines, too.
