While recruiting may not be at the forefront of college football head coaches' minds right now, that doesn't mean the race for commitments is ever over. Michigan head coach Kyle Whittingham put together an impressive 2027 class over the summer months, reeling in 21 commits, ranking No. 18 in the country according to 247Sports.
While Whititngham could easily be done with the Class of 2027, there are still opportunities to flip already committed recruits and bring in a few uncommitted guys, as well. Game day visits will be the best way to impress some guys who are still looking for their choice of school, and Michigan just landed another one, but it might surprise literally everyone.
Defensive lineman Jeremiah Mark has no ranking for the Class of 2027; he is a former basketball player who only recently burst onto the football recruiting scene. He went from having just one FCS offer in the spring to now four Power Four offers and 11 game-day visits to power conference schools.

It seems like a crazy plan to host a 2027 recruit with no rating and who has just landed in the recruiting scene in the spring. The 6-foot-5, 270-pound prospect now holds offers from Miami, Ole Miss, Alabama, and LSU, showing that there is something there that schools are noticing, and if Michigan is hosting him for a game-day visit, Whittingham is in on the mystery.
Being so new to the football recruiting process, it makes sense that Mark wouldn't have a rating or ranking in the country, as those were set for the 2027 class a while ago, but the former basketball player is catching the eye of many power conference programs. Mark will make visits to six SEC schools, three ACC schools, and two Big Ten schools, the other being Ohio State.
So, what is it about Mark that is making him soar on the recruiting trail so fast? Well, his size alone is perfect for a defensive lineman who wants to get to the quarterback, but really, there isn't a lot known about his time on the football field, adding to the mystery.
Mark isn't the only football player new to the sport who is interested in Michigan. Four-star edge rusher Ifeanyi Emedobi, who recently committed to Michigan, has only played football for about a year and chose Whittingham and his staff to continue his development. This could be a sign that new guys to the sport are trusting the Wolverines in their development, which could turn into Michigan finding a lot of hidden talent.
Hopefully, Whittigham and defensive coordinator Jay Hill will be able to crack the code when Mark is in Ann Arbor in October. Michigan will have Mark on campus when the Wolverines host the reigning National Champion Indiana Hoosiers in the Big House. A late October game in the middle of the season should give Mark an idea of what playing at Michigan would be like, the perfect game-day atmosphere.
