Michigan football has 13 blue-chip commitments in the 2026 class as it stands right now, but another one could be coming after a flip prediction put in by a recruiting expert on Wednesday.
Sam Spiegelman of Rivals has put in a projection for the Rivals/On3 recruiting prediction machine for Michigan football to flip four-star defensive back Jordan Deck, who is currently committed to Baylor.
Deck is an intriguing prospect. On3 has Deck listed as 6-foot-3, 185 pounds. 247 Sports has him at 6-foot-1, 195. He's a consensus four-star prospect (No. 396 overall), and visited Michigan football in June.
However, Deck took a visit to Baylor after that. The safety out of Frisco, Texas, committed to the in-state program in a bit of a surprise.
Since the middle of June, and post House settlement, Michigan has been dominating on the recruiting trail. There have been some misses, but not many. It's hard to say if NIL was a factor in Deck's decision to commit to Baylor, but Michigan hasn't stopped recruiting him, and that effort appears to have paid off. Or it will.
What a flip of Jordan Deck would mean for Michigan football
Deck reminds me of Makari Paige. He's more of a safety, but it's not impossible to see him playing nickel like Paige did at the end of last season.
As a sophomore, Deck had five interceptions and 10 pass breakups. As a junior, he didn't intercept any passes, but still broke up 12. Deck also had 115 tackles over the past two seasons.
It's clear Michigan is looking for a safety, as well as a cover corner. Davon Benjamin is the top target at cornerback. The Wolverines have been trending up in that recruitment, but Oregon is still viewed as the team to beat.
Landing Deck would cross off the need at safety. Beyond that, Michigan seems to be targeting a nose tackle, a linebacker, a cornerback, a running back, and a safety, although that need could be satisfied if Michigan can flip Deck.
