For the second day in a row, the Michigan football program completed the flip of a 2026 commitment. On Thursday, the Wolverines landed three-star linebacker Aden Reeder out of Ohio.
On Friday, Michigan football addressed the offensive line, adding the commitment of Tommy Fraumann, a 6-foot-7, 250-pound offensive tackle out of Illinois. Fraumann was previously committed to Central Michigan and is ranked No. 1,354 overall in the 2026 class, according to the 247 Sports composite rankings.
Fraumann might not be a highly-ranked recruit. Flipping commitments from the MAC isn't something that Michigan football fans will normally get excited about either.
What to like about Michigan football's latest commitment
However, 6-foot-7 offensive tackles don't grow on trees. People with that size, athleticism, and length, are rare finds. Fraumann is a legacy recruit, so that's another factor. His most notable offer outside of Michigan was Oregon State.
However, offensive tackles, good ones, are extremely valuable in college football. That's why for the Wolverines, it's worth taking a chance on a guy like Fraumann, who has high upside. If the kid takes two or three years, but turns into a starting-caliber player, that will be worth its weight in gold.
Average offensive tackles are getting paid a million bucks in the transfer portal. That's how dire it is. Michigan is in great shape with Blake Frazier, Andrew Sprague, Andrew Babalola, Blake Frazier, and even Ty Haywood. That offensive tackle room is loaded. One or two of those guys will end up playing guard.
Fraumann doesn't seem like a player who can bump inside. But if he adds 50 pounds or so to his frame, there's a chance he could be a starter, or even a swing tackle in a few years. And as we mentioned above, with an offensive tackle, the risk is worth the reward.
Another flip should be coming
According to Brice Marich of the Michigan Insider, another flip could be happening on the offensive line in the 2026 class, as the Wolverines look for a true center. Sean Stover, a Duke commitment, is someone we have mentioned before.
Michigan is still in the mix to flip him. Another name on the radar is Adrian Hamilton, a Virginia Tech commitment. The Wolverines offered the three-star Hamilton a few weeks ago. Stover visited. He's the better prospect and not just because he's a four-star.
Marich wrote that he feels Michigan will flip or the other before this class is said and done.
