The recruiting trail is as cutthroat as it gets when it comes to college football, but probably not as cutthroat as the Michigan and Ohio State rivalry. If there is one thing that Michigan loves to see, it is Ohio State failing in any way, especially when it comes to football.

While Michigan has one of its hottest months recruiting-wise with Kyle Whittingham at the helm, the Buckeyes seem to be struggling as of late, much to the joy of Wolverines fans. Ohio State could see its top quarterback in the Class of 2027 walk as worry grows amongst the Buckeyes, with four-star Brady Edmunds taking an official visit to UCLA this weekend.

Edmunds has been committed to Ohio State since December of 2024, but it feels like the Buckeyes have cooled off the four-star quarterback as of late. Ohio State has been shopping around for some other quarterbacks in the Class of 2027, like Nebraska commit Trae Taylor and Alabama commit Elijah Haven.

Could the Buckeyes' looking around for other quarterbacks be the reason Edmunds is taking it upon himself to check out other programs? The answers will never be known, but it makes sense. UCLA has also become more of a problem for the rest of the Big Ten on the recruiting trail since the Bruins hired Bob Chesney, which is something Michigan will have to be wary of as well.

This is a train wreck that Michigan fans will happily pull up a chair to sit and watch while eating popcorn. Seeing Ohio State potentially fumble the bag with a quarterback as quality as Brady Edmunds is what Michigan fans practically pray for.

Michigan has a chance to kick Ohio State when it is already down with big recruiting battle

Ohio State may have cooled off Edmunds, but that doesn't mean they want to see him walk. While Ohio State is down, though, Michigan can make things worse for its most hated rival. The Wolverines and Buckeyes are already in a heated recruiting battle for a former Indiana de-commit, and Michigan is leading.

Four-star cornerback Monsanna Tolbert Jr., who is an Ohio native, recently decommitted from the Hoosiers and is now re-entering the recruiting game. There are four teams after the elite defender: Alabama, Notre Dame, Ohio State, and Michigan. This feels like a two-team race, however, as Michigan just took over Notre Dame's recruiting weekend in Tolbert's calendar, and the Buckeyes are the hometown team in this one.

Tolbert already had an unofficial visit with the Buckeyes earlier in the spring and an official visit coming up. Both Michigan and Ohio State are the only programs with official visits set with Tolbert, setting this up as a good old-fashioned rivalry battle.

Michigan will host Tolbert for Victors Weekend on June 19, giving Whittingham plenty of time to work his recruiting magic. Not only would landing a recruit over Ohio State be a sweet victory, but an in-state recruit would make it even sweeter.

After the flip from Maxwell Miles in recent days, Tolbert could be a big commitment for Michigan's secondary, which is looking a little thin in the Class of 2027. Michigan can capitalize on Ohio State being down right now, and fans will absolutely love it.
