Michigan is aggressively going after some of the top quarterbacks in the 2027 class after former four-star commit Peter Bourque backed away from his pledge earlier this week. The Wolverines have offered both Kamden Lopati and Dane Weber this week.

Lopati, a four-star prospect from Salt Lake City, is already beaming over the Wolverines offer and Kyle Whittingham's presence in Utah over the past two decades should keep Michigan in the hunt for long-time Illinois pledge. But Weber is taking it one step further and has placed Michigan among his top-tier schools.

4-star QB Dane Weber has Michigan in his top group

Weber's first offer came from Utah, which means his relationship with the Michigan staff is established, and the player speaks highly of quarterbacks coach Koy Detmer Jr. and offensive coordinator Jason Beck.

"Yes, (Detmer talked to me about the offense)," Weber said to Brice Marich of 247Sports. "I've been talking to him about it since they were at Utah. The way that Coach Beck uses the quarterback's legs and ability to make plays is something that fits me."

The Wolverines need to bring an arm into the fold in this class. They are hopefully set at quarterback for at least the next two years with Bryce Underwood, so having a young arm come in to spend a year behind him and learn the offense would be ideal to make a smooth transition at the position.

The next step for the Wolverine is going to be to lock in an official visit with Weber. Given his affinity for the coaching staff and his interest in the offense that Beck runs, getting him on campus in an official capacity should not be difficult. But whether it's Weber or Lopati or someone else, the Wolverines need a quarterback in the class and are short on time to get in done since most of the top arms are committed by the end of the summer.
