The Michigan football QB board in the 2027 class got a reset earlier this week, thanks to the decommitment of four-star quarterback Peter Bourque.
The highly-touted signal-caller committed to the Wolverines last summer. He was expected to visit Michigan this spring, but some other programs have started to garner interest. Bourque said he didn't want to take visits when he was committed to another school, so he re-opened his recruitment.
Michigan football doesn't seem like it will be involved moving forward, which is fine, because the Wolverines have shifted their attention to some other 2027 targets. One of them is four-star quarterback Kamden Lopati, who is committed to Illinois, but just happens to be out of Salt Lake City, Utah.

It seems like Kyle Whittingham and the current staff might have a tie or two to that region. The Wolverines offered on Tuesday, and According to Brice Marich of The Michigan Insider, Michigan already has the "full attention" of Lopati.

"The offense, I really like it. It's well-structured, quarterback-friendly, and gives playmakers opportunities in space," Lopati said to Marich about Michigan.
Lopati is 6-foot-3, 215 pounds. He's ranked No. 129 overall (10th among QBs) in the 2027 class, according to the 247 Sports composite rankings. He passed for over 3,000 yards as a sophomore in 2024, while also rushing for over 600 yards.
The blue-chip prospect, who committed to Illinois last summer, was offered by Utah when Whittingham was still the head coach, so there is a familiarity. He would also be a better fit for the offense than Bourque, who is known as a pocket passer.
So even though Michigan football just lost a top-100 quarterback, there are still some options on the table, even if it is a bit late for 2027 QB recruiting.
