It hasn't taken long for Kyle Whittingham to put together a strong coaching staff for the Michigan football program.
One day after the Citrus Bowl, both coordinators have been hired. Whittham confirmed offensive coordinator Jason Beck on College Gameday. Jay Hill, who was expected as the hire for days, has also been hired, according to Pete Thamel of ESPN.
Beck comes from Utah, where he coordinated the fifth-ranked scoring offense in college football last season, capped on Wednesday by a 44-point effort in the Las Vegas Bowl win over Nebraska, a game in which Utah QB Devon Dampier had 458 yards of total offense and five touchdowns.
It's easy to be excited about what Beck would do with Bryce Underwood, who had 286 total yards and accountedfor three touchdowns against Texas. Joining Beck will be wide receivers coach Micah Simon, as well as Koy Detmer Jr., who was an offensive analyst and QB coach for the Utes.
The offensive coaching staff will also have offensive line coach Jim Harding, which is a massive win. He's as good an O-line coach as there is in college football. Frankly, Underwood would be crazy to transfer at this point.
Michigan hires defensive coordinator, too
The offensive side of the ball is set. The only thing we don't know is whether or not Freddie Whittingham will be the tight ends coach or have another role. Grant Newsome could move back to tights end coach if that's the case.
Michigan is set to hire Utah offensive line coach/assistant head coach Jim Harding, sources tell @CBSSports.

Zenitz, who reported the hires of Beck and Harding, along with the others, confirmed that Jay Hill has been hired. We analyzed his addition, earlier this week. But Hill has coordinated top-20 scoring defenses in the past two seasons for the Cougars.
So far, Michigan fans have to love the staff Whittingham is putting together. The final spots to be decided are linebackers coach, secondary coach, and, like we said, tight ends coach. It feels like Lou Esposito will remain as the D-line coach, which makes sense. Kerry Coombs should also be retained.
Roster retention is the next thing to make official, but based on the staff hired, that should be much easier.
