Just one day after Michigan football completed its 2025 season in the Citrus Bowl, key pieces of Kyle Whittingham's coaching staff are starting to come together.

According to Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports, Michigan is set to hire Utah offensive coordinator Jason Beck away from the Utes one day after a 44-22 beatdown of Nebraska in the Las Vegas Bowl.

Kyle Whittingham just hired his most important assistant coach

Beck was always viewed as a key piece to the puzzle for Whittingham, who is known more as a defensive coach. There were rumblings that Utah was trying to keep the offensive genius, who coached Utah to 41 points per game this season, which was 5th in college football.

Beck's offense was also dynamic on the ground and through the air, making him the perfect fit for Michigan football. Utah, utilizing two dual-threat quarterbacks, averaged 269 yards on the ground during the regular season, as well as 208 through the air, to go along with 25 touchdown passes.

5-foot-11 quarterback Devon Dampier was incredible for the Utes against Nebraska on Wednesday, accounting for 458 total yards and five touchdowns. Dampier and Underwood aren't the same player, but after seeing Underwood account for 268 total yards (69 rushing) and three touchdowns against Texas, it's exciting to think about what he could do under Beck.

It's also exciting to think about what guys like Jordan Marshall, Justice Haynes, if he decides to come back, and Savion Hiter, a five-star running back signee, could do in one of the most explosive rush offenses in college football.

This system will be tailor-made to fit Underwood and his production, as well as the production of the entire offense, should take off like a rocket under Beck next season.
