There are some good vibes on the recruiting trail right now for Kyle Whittingham and Michigan football, as a four-star EDGE from Ohio has started trending to the Wolverines.

That's in the 2028 class, though. This cycle is still 2027. Even though most of the work has been done by Michigan and other programs, the Wolverines are still looking to add talent in this cycle, especially when it comes to the secondary, particularly safety.

Michigan has Charles Woodson Jr. committed in the 2027 class, along with Tavares Harrington, who could be a nickel, a cornerback, or a safety. It feels like the Wolverines want another true safety, instead of a hybrid guy.

That's where Alan Blackshere, a three-star DB committed to UConn comes in.

Michigan aims to add another safety commitment in 2027 recruiting class

The Wolverines have an offer on the table for the 6-foot-3, 175-pound safety, who is from Miami, Florida. He took official visits to UConn, North Carolina, and Missouri. He has been committed to the Huskies since June, but Michigan football isn't giving up the fight, according to Brice Marich of The Michigan Insider.

According to Marich, Blackshere is going to come to Ann Arbor for an official visit during the fall. That's a key development, and one that Blackshere called a "dream come true."

"I've been watching them since I was little, so it's really a dream come true," he said.

Ranked No. 697 overall in the 2027 class, according to the 247 Sports composite rankings, Blackshere would give the Wolverines another safety commitment, one that can play in the middle of the field.

The three-star defensive back, who was offered by teams like Alabama and Auburn, shows good ball skills on film and some good closing speed. A visit to Ann Arbor for the Oklahoma game should be a great experience, and should give the Wolverines a strong chance to flip his commitment.

Michigan football had some other targets higher on the board, but it's a smart move for the Wolverines to circle back here, with a chance to add an underrated player to the class, at a position of need after some misses.

A lot can change between now and September, but there shouldn't be much happening on the recruiting trail. Michigan also isn't the only team trying to flip Blackshere. Missouri has also been on the radar.

Of course, the Wolverines have their sights set on flipping some other 2027 recruits, namely, Dakota Guerrant, the five-star wideout, who has committed to Oregon. Flipping Blackshere seems more realistic, though, especially if he ends up taking that official visit in the fall.
