Michigan football hosted elite defensive line target Seth Tillman for an official visit last weekend, and coming out of that trip, there was some positive buzz about where the Wolverines stood.
Tillman even told recruiting insiders that Michigan football had "moved the needle." Going into the official visit, it felt like Georgia was setting the pace for the 6-foot-2, 294-pound defensive lineman, who is ranked No. 123 overall, according to the 247 Sports composite rankings in the 2027 class.
That quote made it feel like Michigan football had moved past Georgia. There was some positive buzz about a potential commitment, however, Clemson was also waiting in the wings.
Tillman is out of Rock Hill, South Carolina. He's an in-state recruit for the Tigers, who have built a strong 2027 class in their own right. Tillman is taking his official visit to Clemson this weekend, and ahead of that trip, a Tigers insider has logged a prediction that is bad news for Michigan football.
Elite D-lineman projected to land with Clemson over Michigan
The prediction is coming from a Clemson insider, Austin Hannon, but he's projecting Tillman to land with the Tigers in the 2027 recruiting class.
If that ends up being true, it would be a huge blow to Michigan. Tillman is a versatile defensive lineman who has the rare ability to be a dominant interior pass rusher. Over the past two seasons, Tillman was credited with 24 sacks and 137 tackles total.
He was playing at around 260 pounds, but he should be in the 300-pound range by the time he's playing college football. In addiiton to Clemson and Georgia, Kentucky and South Carolina have also been in the mix, although the Wolverines have been trending up since the spring.
This recruitment has been shifting, though. Steve Wilfong of Rivals projected Tillman to Georgia back on June 1st. The top recruiting expert for Rivals saw the Bulldogs as the team to beat, but since then, it feels Michigan and Clemson have now taken turns at the top.
Kentucky is getting the next official visit, but the Wildcats feel on the outside of the top contenders. Miami, Nebraska, LSU, Virginia Tech, Arkansas, Florida State, North Carolina, and Maryland are some of the other programs that offered Tillman a scholarship.
Michigan has one four-star DL commitment in 2027, Xavier Muhammad. Adding Tillman would be a home run, but if this latest prediction is accurate, the Wolverines have work to do, and a short time to do it.
