Tuesday was an interesting day on the recruiting trail for the Michigan football program. Dakota Guerrant committed to Oregon. The Wolverines also offered some legacy recruits, and hosted a surprise four-star visitor in the 2027 class.

That recruit is a four-star cornerback Larry Moon from the IMG Academy in Florida. The 5-foot-11, 190-pound cornerback is ranked no. 370 overall in the 2027 class, via the Rivals Industry Rankings.

Michigan's offer dates back to May of 2024. Moon, who is listed as a safety, according to the 247 Sports composite rankings, which also have him ranked as a four-star, has a bunch of impressive offers, such as Indiana, Ohio State, Georgia, Alabama, Auburn, Oregon, Ole Miss, Notre Dame, LSU, Penn State, Clemson, Missouri, Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Tennessee, and others.

There have been no shortage of suitors for the blue-chip defensive back. There wasn't much chatter about Michigan football until Tuesday, when, according to Ethan McDowell of The Wolverine, U-M hosted Moon for a surprise visit.

Moon visited Penn State 10 times. Some of those visits came when James Franklin was the head coach. He's now spearheading the charge for the Virginia Tech Hokies to land the four-star DB. The Hokies were one of the teams to host Moon for an official visit in June. Georgia Tech was the other.

Ohio State has also been mentioned by Moon as a team still in the mix. The Buckeyes hosted him for a visit this spring, but it seems like their interest has cooled; however, Michigan's is heating up.

Ohio State just started trending to land a blue-chip cornerback over Michigan. The Wolverines feel like they made a move with five-star Joshua Dobson, but he still has a visit to South Carolina.

An important visit for Michigan with 4-star DB Larry Moon

Moon will be back in Ann Arbor this weekend for an official visit. That's a good sign for the Wolverines because nobody has seized control of this recruitment. The Rivals Recruiting Prediction Machine has Penn State as the favorite but they aren't even a serious contender.

That leaves Virginia Tech, Georgia Tech, and now Michigan. The Wolverines could certainly use another blue-chip commitment in the secondary. It has gotten two so far, but the Wolverines are clearly seeking a couple more pieces back there, not just Dobson, the top target left on the board.

This weekend's visit could lead to a commitment for Michigan football, at least that's the opportunity on the board for Kyle Whittingham's staff.
