Michigan football head coach Kyle Whittingham and the Wolverines have already landed a major legacy recruit in the 2027 class, Charles Woodson Jr.
However, it seems as though the Wolverines will be looking to tap into the legacy pipeline even more as two legacy recruits were offered on Tuesday, following a camp in Ann Arbor.
One of them is Marquis Ray, the son of Michigan football great Marcus Ray, who played with Charles Woodson on the 1997 national championship team. Ray is a 2028 defensive back recruit out of Pickerington, Ohio.
Marcus Ray had 10 interceptions during his four-year Michigan football career, including five, ranking second in the Big Ten to Charles Woodson back in 1997, when the Wolverines won the national championship after a 12-0 season.
Marquis Ray said he was "thrilled" when he posted about the Michigan offer on X, so it feels like there is a good chance the Wolverines can land his commitment, especially if they push as hard for it as they did with Woodson Jr.
Michigan football offers another legacy recruit in 2029
It was a day of nostalgia for Michgan football fans as another Wolverine great saw his son get extended an offer from Whittingham on Tuesday.
Michigan football fans will always remember Mario Manningham's touchdown reception in 2005 against Penn State, in a game-winning reception from Chad Henne. 21 years later, Mario Manningham Jr., received a Michigan offer, following a strong showing at camp this week.
From Ohio, Manningham caught 137 passes for 2,310 yards during his career with the Wolverines. The third-round draft pick of the New York Giants hauled in 72 receptions for 1,174 yards as a junior before declaring for the NFL draft. That season featured a game-winning touchdown reception against Michigan State in East Lansing.
Manningham went on to win a Super Bowl championship with the New York Giants in the 2011 season. He caught a huge pass down the sideline in the fourth quarter to help set up the game-winning touchdown drive for New York.
Manningham's son is in the 2029 class. So there will be plenty of time for the Wolverines to put on the full-court press, but it's good for them to be getting in on the ground floor with an offer.
Ray was one of the best safeties Michigan has ever had, while Manningham is one of the program's most prolific receivers, so it make sense to target their sons, especially after each stood out during the camp process.
With that in mind, it feels like Woodson Jr. could be joined by some other legacy commitments in the future.
