It feels like fireworks are coming for Michigan football recruiting. The Wolverines have already landed three commitments, with each of them coming last week in the 2026 class.
That pushed the number of commitments to 10 for Michigan football. However, the Wolverines aren't done and after another successful weekend of official visits, they are trending to land a pair of priority targets.
Elite defensive back locks in decision date after Michigan visit
One of those is four-star defensive back Andre Clarke, a 6-foot-1, 175-pound defensive back out of Richmond, Virginia. Clarke is ranked No. 177 overall in the 2026 class, according to the 247 Sports composite rankings.
He's listed as a cornerback but could also play safety. Either way, according to his scouting report from 247 Sports, Clarke is a "premier playmaker."
"Clarke is a premier level playmaker in the defensive secondary with the ability to play both cornerback and safety. Very desirable combination of instincts, athleticism, and tackling ability. Clarke can mirror and match receivers in coverage but also play center field safety and read the quarterback with great timing and leaping ability on passes downfield. Plays heady and aware of down and distance in the passing game, but can also come up and lay explosive hits on ball carriers. Clarke is more thin-framed but shows more strength and toughness than his size insists. Clarke's playmaking ability and coverage chops project him to a mid to early round NFL draft choice projection," wrote Clint Brewster of 247 Sports earlier this month.
Clarke could play a few different spots. Maybe he could be the perfect nickel, thanks to his tackling and coverage ability. Regardless, Lamar Morgan, the Michigan defensive backs coach, seems to have put the Wolverines in the driver's seat for a commitment.
There have been multiple crystal ball projections for Clarke to commit to Michigan football. Steve Wilftong and Chad Simmons of On3.com, two of the most respected national analysts, have also projected Clarke to the Wolverines.
The four-star defensive back has now set a commitment date for June 30th. I wouldn't be surprised if Michigan landed a commitment or two before then, but in two weeks, the dynamic defensive back should be joining the Wolverines 2026 class.
