If you have been on social media over the past few days, you might have heard about some major recruiting fireworks that were expected to happen for Michigan football.

The buzz has been surrounding five-star quarterback Bryce Underwood, who is the No. 1 overall player in the 2025 recruiting class and the top quarterback according to the 247 Sports composite rankings.

Underwood who is from Belleville, Michigan, committed to LSU back in January. There haven't been any rumors about a flip until recently. Some have wondered if this has anything to do with Dave Portnoy pledging to spend millions of dollars to get Michigan football a transfer quarterback.

Underwood would be just as good. Actually, he would be better. Underwood could start right away for the Wolverines and he's expected to be a future first-round pick.

Bryce Underwood dispels Michigan football rumors

These rumors have been attributed to Sam Webb of The Michigan Insider who teased "fireworks" on the message board earlier this week.

The Wolverines are trending in a positive direction to land five-star offensive tackle Andrew Babalola, which would be a significant recruiting win in its own right. However, the buzz going around doesn't fit with an offensive line commitment, no matter how highly ranked.

Yet, Michigan football fans shouldn't get their hopes up. It doesn't seem like the rumors were true. The topic was discussed on an LSU recruiting podcast and Underwood actually commented with the laughing emoji, telling us that we probably shouldn't take all these rumors seriously.

Maybe there was some chance behind the scenes, but if there was, it doesn't seem likely. Not that it ever did.
