Michigan football fans are stoked about the commitment of four-star offensive lineman Bear McWhorter, and if they aren't, they should be.
This is another major recruiting win on the trail for Grant Newsome and Sherrone Moore. McWhorter is from White, Georgia. He's ranked as the No. 32 interior offensive lineman according to the 247 Sports composite rankings and 385th overall.
Here are some thoughts on why Michigan football fans should be so fired up about this commitment, which is the third of the 2026 class.
Michigan football beat Alabama head-to-head
It used to be worrisome when Michigan was locked in a recruiting battle against teams like Alabama from the SEC. However, that has changed.
The Wolverines flipped Ty Haywood, a top-50 recruit in 2025 class. Now, after the crystal balls were pointing in the direction of Alabama, Michgan football was able to win out in the end.
It shows once again that Michigan football is serious about the NIL game and that when all things are equal, Sherrone Moore is one of the best recruiters in college football. Grant Newsome isn't too shabby either.
McWhorter is better than his ranking
McWhorter is barely ranked inside the top 400. However, when you see teams like Michigan, Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Texas, Texas A&M, Ole Miss, South Carolina, Penn State, Tennessee, Oklahoma, North Carolina, Georgia, LSU, Florida, and Florida State, among others on his offer sheet, you can disregard the rankings.
It's clear that Michigan believes McWhorter is one of the best interior offensive lineman in the class and fans will look back at this recruitment as a major win in a couple of years.
Wolverines off to a solid start in 2026
Some might say that Michigan football is off to a slow start in the 2026 class but the Wolverines are off to a solid start. They have three commitments ranked inside the top 500 of the 247 Sports composite rankings. Two of them are blue-chips.
Michigan also has a bunch of top targets scheduled to come for official visits in June. The infastructure is there for this 2026 class to be as good or even better than the 2025 class.
But McWhorter's commitment gives Michigan football momentum and another feather in the cap of Sherrone Moore as the Wolverines keep building what could be a defining class.
