Michigan football landed the No. 1 overall recruit in the 2025 class, Bryce Underwood. Now, the Wolverines are among the six finalists to do the same thing in 2026.
Jackson Cantwell, a 6-foot-7, 300-pound offensive tackle from Nixa, Missouri, is the No. 1 offensive tackle and No. 1 overall player in the 2026 class according to the 247 Sports composite rankings.
Cantwell visited Michigan football this fall. Sherrone Moore and company have been making a strong push for him and that effort was rewarded by making his top six on Sunday.
Joining Michigan football are Georgia, Missouri, Ohio State, Oregon, and Miami. Three of those teams just made the College Football Playoff. The Wolverines won the national title in 2023 and have won the Joe Moore Award twice with Sherrone Moore leading the offensive line.
He's now the head coach. If Moore and the Wolverines sign Ty Haywood this week, that will be the second top-40 offensive tackle to sign in 2025. Andrew Sprague was also just outside the top-100 in 2024.
The Wolverines have proven they can battle with anyone on the NIL front. They also have a great pedigree for developing offensive lineman. Myles Hinton will be the latest to be drafted into the NFL this season.
Missouri and Georgia have the most visits according to On3.com, but it feels like this will come down to official visits in the summer.
Sherrone Moore visits 4-star tight end in Montana
Earlier this month, Steve Wiltfong, the top national recruiting expert in all of college football, predicted that Michigan football would land the commitment of Billings, Montana tight end Matt Ludwig.
The 6-foot-4, 230-pounder is ranked 255th overall and 19th among tight ends in 2026. He's the best player from the state of Montana and just the second four-star from the Big Sky State since the inception of the 247 Sports composite rankings.
Looking back, Colston Loveland was ranked No. 302 overall in the 2022 class. Ludwig is a similar player and had 190 yards receiving in a game this past season. He also sees time at quarterback and is a standout on the basketball court too.
That's something Sherrone Moore knows firsthand since he made the trip to Billings to see Ludwig on Friday. Texas Tech head coach Joey McGuire was also there but Steve Casula, Grant Newsome, and Chip Lindsey were also on the trip.
Hopefully, that will lead to a commitment from a dude who has big-time upside, just like the last tight end Michigan signed from the Rocky Mountain region.
