Michigan Wolverines news: 5-star defensive back to visit, key injury updates, and more
A five-star recruit is planning to visit Michigan football, plus key injury updates for UNLV and more Michigan Wolverines news.
Even though we are in the midst of the Michigan football season, recruiting never stops and things are really starting to pick up in the 2025 class for the Wolverines.
There was some new reporting on Wednesday night from Steve Wiltfong of 247 Sports that five-star quarterback Bryce Underwood is now interested in Colorado, giving the Michigan Wolverines another contender to worry about in addition to LSU.
However, that wasn’t the only report from Wiltfong that concerned the Michigan Wolverines. He also reports that DJ Pickett, a priority target for Michigan football, and a five-star safety in the 2025 class, will be taking a trip to Ann Arbor this fall for a game.
The 6-foot-2, 170-pounder out of Tampa, Florida, is the No. 8 recruit overall in the 2025 class according to the 247 Sports composite rankings. He’s also the No. 1 safety.
This recruitment won’t be easy to win for the Michigan Wolverines, however. Pickett just visited Florida State and also told Wiltfong he wants to visit Georgia, Alabama, and Miami this fall too.
Michigan football injury updates vs. UNLV
Will Johnson is one, if not the best player on the Michigan Wolverines roster. Yet, the cornerback wasn’t available against East Carolina. Neither was Rod Moore and there’s a chance that both players could miss Michigan football’s game against UNLV too.
Johnson and Moore both practiced on Tuesday, according to what Steve Clinkscale told the media. Yet, the co-defensive coordinator said the two elite defenders could be held out again. “If you rush a guy back too fast, it can really set them back,” Clink said.
I’d rather Moore and Johnson be 100 percent before returning. That being said, I’d love to see them get some on-field reps before the start of Big Ten play.
Roman Wilson getting attention from NFL scouts
Wideout Roman Wilson was one of the stars of the Michigan football win over East Carolina with six receptions for 78 yards and three touchdowns.
The speedster from Hawaii took a noticeable jump this offseason, at least according to players and coaches, and it looked like it in Week 1.
Wilson was also a name that had some buzz among NFL scouts this week, according to Jim Nagy of the Senior Bowl. Here’s what Nagy told On3.com about Wilson:
"“Staffers tell us Wilson is one of the fastest players in the Michigan program and we expect him to run in the 4.3s (in the 40-yard dash) at the Combine next March. Showed good football smarts and chemistry with QB J.J. McCarthy by getting open in ‘scramble drill’ situations on two of his touchdown catches. Staffers tell us Wilson and McCarthy spent a lot of time together this offseason and it showed in Week 1, so we expect Wilson to be his QB’s go-to guy and the Wolverines’ big-play guy all season.”"
Roman Wilson was dynamite in Week 1 against East Carolina and there’s little reason to believe he’ll slow down this season for Michigan football, which has Game Two on Saturday.
