Michigan Football gets positive update for 5-star DT Justin Scott
Michigan football has been counted out a bit with five-star Justin Scott, but after a new report on Wednesday, the Wolverines are right in the thick of it.
Michigan football doesn’t have a five-star recruit committed right now in the 2024 class according to the 247 Sports composite rankings.
But, according to some new intel, that could be changing as the Wolverines might have a better shot than expected with five-star defensive tackle Justin Scott.
Scott is easily the top target left on the board in the 2024 class for Michigan football. The 6-foot-4, 310-pound defensive lineman out of Chicago ranks 14th overall according to the 247 Sports composite rankings and third among D-line.
Michigan football hosted Scott for an official visit earlier this month. However, Ohio State, Georgia, Miami, Notre Dame, and others are in the mix for the elite defender.
Scott took official visits to Georgia, Miami, and also Ohio State this past weekend. However, according to Mike Singer of the On3 Notre Dame site, Michigan football is a team to watch as he sees this recruitment trending more toward the Midwest.
Singer reported that “he’s hearing a lot of positive buzz about Michigan.” EJ Holland of The Wolverine had noted earlier in June that if Scott stayed in the Midwest, Michigan football would have a good chance. Now, it seems more likely.

Where Justin Scott’s recruitment stands
Right now, the On3 prediction machine favors Miami and gives the Hurricanes a 67-percent chance of winning Scott’s commitment. Notre Dame is at 20 percent, followed by Georgia in third.
Yet, Singer indicated that Georgia was out. So then it comes down to whether you believe the buzz about Miami. Steve Wiltfong put in a prediction for the Hurricanes in March but none have followed since then.
Notre Dame was viewed as the clear leader at one point. The Irish were trending with projections and a decision date was even announced. But then Scott changed his mind, which was good news for Michigan football.
Now, we just have to hope that the Wolverines’ recruiting pitch has paid off, although I think they’d need to get him back on campus for the recruiting BBQ at the end of July to win him over.
If that happens, then I’d feel really good about Michigan football’s chances of adding the five-star D-line to its 2024 recruiting haul.
