Things keep getting worse for Michigan basketball, plus the Michigan football team is closing in on a transfer and more in our Michigan Wolverines news roundup.

Just to be kind, we’re going to lead with some Michigan football news this Tuesday morning because there is actually some good news to report.

The Michigan Wolverines hosted former UMass cornerback Josh Wallace over the weekend. Wallace is 6-foot-1 and had a really productive career before entering the transfer portal.

Former U-M DC Don Brown is the head coach at UMass and Michigan football has other ties to the staff, which seems to have played a role here. Wallace has now been projected to land with Michigan football by Steve Lorenz of The Michigan Insider.

Wallace, who recorded 64 solo tackles combined in the past two seasons to go along with 20 pass breakups and two interceptions, has also set a commitment date for Wednesday.

That should be a good day for Michigan football. The Wolverines have been after another starting-caliber cornerback since January and it seems like they will finally get one for 2023 this week.

Things get even worse for Michigan basketball

Losing Olivier Nkamhoua was a gut punch and on Monday, he eliminated the Michigan Wolverines from contention, narrowing his list down to Baylor and West Virginia.

It’s a sign that Michigan basketball has no NIL program to speak of. That was pretty clear when Hunter Dickinson said he made less than six figures playing for the Michigan Wolverines.

It’s embarrassing at this point. Some people are upset at Juwan Howard, but how? It’s not his issue that Michigan has turned its nose up at NIL for years, at the expense of its own success.

And if losing Nkamhoua wasn’t bad enough, Zyon Pullin announced his list was trimmed down to LSU and Florida, also knocking Michigan basketball out of contention.

At this point, the transfer portal pickings are slim. I’m sure the Wolverines will add a player or two but they might just be bodies at this point.

It’s a shocking fall for this program and it makes you wonder how long Juwan Howard wil stick it out when he’s not given the tools to compete.
