Michigan football is expected to host transfer cornerback Josh Wallace this week for a multi-day visit.

We have heard about how Michigan football wanted to add a cornerback to the 2023 roster via the transfer portal and it feels like the Wolverines are closer than ever.

Former UMass cornerback Josh Wallace, a three-year starter for the Minutemen, entered the transfer portal earlier this week and he has obvious ties to Michigan football.

Not only did Wallace play for former Michigan football defensive coordinator Don Brown, but a relative of Chris Partridge is also an assistant on the staff.

Wallace is 6 feet, 190 pounds, and fits for a number of reasons. Over the past two seasons, he has been credited with 20 pass breakups. Eight of those came in 2022. He had 12 in 2021. He was also voted by his teammates to be a team captain twice.

Penn State, Oklahoma, and a number of other schools have shown interest since Wallace entered the transfer portal last week, but Michigan football is a serious threat, judging by the fact that Wallace is going to visit the Wolverines this week according to Josh Henschke of Rivals.

Can Michigan land transfer Josh Wallace?

The fact that Wallace is a team captain is a good thing. The Wolverines don’t want to add guys to the locker room who don’t have the same mission as everyone else and Wallace feels like a fit.

That doesn’t mean he would start. Amorion Walker and Jyaire Hill will also have something to say about that, along with Ja’Den McBurrows, Myles Pollard, and others.

Wallace would add another proven playmaker to the back end of the defense and just some insurance in case some of the younger guys aren’t quite ready for primetime.

Another thing I like about Wallace is his tackling. He had 32 solo tackles in each of the past two seasons. That’s another reason why he’d be a solid fit with Michigan football.

Transfer visits are a little different than recruiting visits too. I’d expect a decision sooner rather than later, and a visit gives me confidence that Michigan can seal the deal.
