Michigan football has the top-ranked recruiting class in 2024 according to the 247 Sports composite rankings and here’s why it could get even better.

When it comes to the 2024 recruiting class, Michigan football is killing it. The Wolverines have 16 commitments and the No. 1 class right now.

Michigan football probably won’t end up with the No. 1 class. However, there is a chance, especially if the Wolverines can continue to get elite recruits on campus for official visits.

Georgia will be tough to beat and the Bulldogs are putting together a stellar recruiting class. So are the Ohio State Buckeyes. But Michigan football still has a shot with a bunch of five-star recruits and top-100 targets, so there are plenty of chances to add to this 2024 haul.

Michigan football just landed the commitment of Channing Goodwin on Sunday. Plus, Jeremiah Beasley, a four-star in-state linebacker, and Cole Sullivan, a three-star linebacker from Pennslyvania have also been projected to the Wolverines.

Aaron Chiles is the 75th-ranked player in the 2024 class and just included Michigan football in his final top three with Maryland and Florida. U-M is the heavy favorite there too with four crystal ball projections.

If you just add those three guys, along with four-star EDGE Jacob Smith, who has also been projected to Michigan football (recently after his brother committed), it would be an impressive run of recruiting.

Those four commitments would get Michigan football to 20. Jordan Shipp, another teammate of Jadyn Davis, like Goodwin, is another possibility, plus a bunch of others that will be visiting on the June 9th weekend.

Bryce West joins other elite recruits visiting on June 9th

Five-star defensive tackle Justin Scott will visit the Wolverines for an official visit on June 9th. So will five-star wide receiver Ryan Wingo and top-100 cornerback Bryce West out of Ohio.

Landing any of those recruits would be the cherry on top of a really good recruiting class for the Wolverines. In all, nine recruits that are ranked as four-star prospects or better according to the On3 industry rankings will visit Ann Arbor that weekend.

Dominic Nichols, a four-star EDGE listed at 6-foot-5, 245 pounds, is another recruit that will visit that weekend and has crystal ball projections to Michigan. The On3 prediction machine favors the Wolverines too.

Outside of Nichols, Jordan Marshall, a current Michigan commit, is the only Wolverines commitment/lean that will take the trip.

The other guys are still undecided in terms of their recruitment, but that weekend will be a chance for the Wolverines to make their pitch and in 2024, it’s been effective.

Offensive tackle Bennett Warren will be taking an official visit on June 9th too and he’s one of a couple of blue-chip tackles the Wolverines are recruiting. That includes No. 1 tackle Brandon Baker, a five-star in the composite rankings.

The hope is that Baker will come for a visit this summer. I wrote earlier this week, Michigan football will need to get him on campus twice most likely to make a commitment happen.

But overall, the Wolverines are in great shape. They have done a great job of setting up visits with recruits that are trending in the right direction, as well as some of the elite targets left on the board.

What’s nice is that Michigan football won’t have to chase commitments. They have solid prospects at just about every position and on defense, with a guy like Justin Scott at defensive tackle or with corners Aaron Scott and Bryce West of Ohio, they can afford to shoot their shot and play it out.

There is still a long way to go to signing day. However, right now, it would be hard to feel more optimistic about the prospects of the Michigan football recruiting class in 2024.
