The duo has pledged their services to play for Jim Harbaugh as Michigan football states its case for the number one class in the country.

Tight end Brady Prieskorn and defensive lineman Jerod Smith chose Michigan football over other SEC contenders and prized named schools today. Both are composite four-star athletes across the board. Prieskorn is the higher-rated prospect by all the main sites.

Prieskorn is a mismatch nightmare at six foot five plus. As a junior, he averaged almost 30 yards a catch. He only caught 24 passes, but 10 of them reached the endzone. He’s an all-around type of tight end too, which means he’s a willing blocker, a must for a run-centric Jim Harbaugh offense.

Because of his impressive stature, he can play defensive end as well, but his future is brighter at tight end where he ranks second behind Florida State recruit Landen Thomas based on 247sports and their rankings.

He’ll be the next in line behind Colston Loveland and whomever else the coaches develop as a household name at the position moving onward.

There are not many more tight ends in the 2024 class that are better than Prieskorn. He’ll have Mackey award-winning expectations from the first time he catches a pass and can be a first-round pick in the NFL draft whenever he decides to go pro.

Smith might be brought in as a backup who will have to work hard to earn a starting slot on defense. The good thing for him is that he can do just that by studying his high school film. He makes a consistent impact for a factory that produces college football talent. He had 12 sacks as a sophomore.

Michigan football isn’t anywhere near through with this class that is growing more prolific by the commitment. According to the recruiting experts, U-M is in the lead for several prospects who remain uncommitted.

In fact, the Wolverines are the favorites to land another offensive lineman this week, Jake Guarnera, to strengthen their tight grip on the Joe Moore award and arguably the number one line unit in America.

With more commitments on the horizon and if the maize and blue run the table on the gridiron this fall, then the fever pitch will be at an all-time high. The buzz around the program would go to a level that we’ve never seen in this era since the days of the nineties, well before recruiting rankings were popular.

Michigan will continue to battle on and off the field with Georgia and Ohio State for championships. This may finally be the year though that the Wolverines overtake the Buckeyes on the recruiting landscape, although that hasn’t mattered the last two years, but can they dethrone the SEC and win the elusive prize that the conference has had a stronghold on for years now?
