Special teams

Michigan lost Lou Groza award winner Jake Moody to the NFL. There’s no question that the loss of the sure-footed kicker and his awesome mustache will sting. However, the cupboard isn’t bare.

The Wolverines are likely to go from a senior kicker to a true freshman in Adam Samaha. The highly recruited kicker booted a 49-yard field goal in the U.S. Army Bowl this winter and will have a chance to take over kicking duties in the fall.

Special teams coach Jay Harbaugh has a proven track record of producing great units and Samaha has the talent to be the next great kicker for Michigan football, but being a true freshman is definitely worrisome.

This may be the only unit for the Wolverines that will take a step back from last year. If whoever wins the kicking duties can just be solid inside 40 yards that’ll be a plus.
