Michigan Football trending for 2023 DT, new timeline for Jadyn Davis
Michigan football is trending for 2023 defensive tackle Roderick Pierce. We also have a new timeline for five-star QB Jadyn Davis.
Jim Harbaugh has been on the road recruiting this week for the Michigan football program and one of his stops was to see three-star defensive tackle Roderick Pierce.
Pierce was formerly committed to Wisconsin but re-opened his recruitment after all the coaching changes. He visited Michigan football and the 6-foot-3, 290-pound defensive tackle is now trending with crystal ball projections to the Wolverines.
Sam Webb of the Michigan Insider has placed a crystal ball for Michigan and there are four projections total for the No. 547 overall player in the 2023 class to the Wolverines.
Illinois and Texas have also been making a push for Pierce. The Fighting Illini are the in-state team but their defensive coordinator just went to Purdue, which could be another factor that will benefit the Wolverines.
Michigan could certainly use more defensive line help in the 2023 class and Pierce would be a nice addition. Jamel Howard is still out there too. He’s another former Wisconsin commitment that could play nose tackle and is 6-foot-3, 320 pounds.
Jadyn Davis timeline update
Sam Webb of the Michigan Insider offered an update on five-star quarterback Jadyn Davis from the 2024 recruiting class. Davis has been projected by Webb, EJ Holland (On3), Steve Wiltfong, Steve Lorenz, and more in this recruitment.
However, Michigan football still needs to close. The fact that Davis is close to J.J. McCarthy should help, especially with the NIL stuff. Michigan players are getting NIL but it’s not a pay-for-play thing as it is not supposed to be.
NIL doesn’t seem like a huge issue for Davis and it shouldn’t be. McCarthy is proof that the starting quarterback at Michigan can make plenty and Davis should be able to as well, even before he becomes the starter, which was the case with McCarthy.
There was some reporting that Davis was going to announce a decision before the end of the year but now, according to Webb, it won’t be until next month.
I know Michigan football fans will worry about this but Webb said it doesn’t change his crystal ball projection or his confidence level. If there winds up being a longer delay, I would get concerned, but if a decision is pushed back a few weeks, I wouldn’t worry about it.
But until a commitment is announced, I wouldn’t be overly confident. You just never know what will happens in this new era of recruiting and NIL.
