5 Questions for Michigan Football heading into UConn
Can the defense accrue more sacks?
Although there isn’t much to complain about with Michigan’s defense, it was surprising that they only got one sack against Hawaii, from Mike Morris.
Hawaii had a good strategy. They had their QB get rid of the ball extremely quick with short dump-off passes and check downs. It ultimately rarely worked, but it still pretty much neutralized Michigan’s pass rush.
This isn’t the first time this has happened (and it won’t be the last) in the Harbaugh era. A lot of teams have employed this strategy throughout the Harbaugh era when scheming against Michigan’s defense because the smart teams know they can’t have their QB stand in the pocket for more than 3-4 seconds every dropback.
The drawback to getting the ball out that quick is misfiring, like overthrows and underthrows. That’s why Hawaii’s QB was only 13/36 passing the football. Having to get rid of the ball super quick on every single dropback snap leads to quick passing, which leads to inaccuracy.
What I’m hoping for is for Jessie Minter to find a different method to get home to the QB. I hope for at least five sacks from the defense on Saturday.
