2. Michigan State is sputtering to the finish line

Ever since the Spartans beat Michigan in January, they’ve only won a combined three games. They’re still a tournament team for now, but if they lose their next three, they’ll assuredly be on the bubble line. They were coming off arguably their most prominent win of the season and even had an extra day of rest compared to Michigan.

The Spartan defense threw a handful of defenders at Hunter Dickinson and none of them had any success. They allowed the Wolverines to shoot at a 60% clip from inside and outside the arc. Five of six of the threes that Michigan basketball made were from Terrance Williams and Caleb Houstan, who has hit nine in his last three outings.

Once Michigan went on its game-changing spurt in the first, Michigan State never got within an arm’s length of Michigan’s convincing lead.

The closest they got was seven because the maize and blue were just too much for the green and white all night long. The Spartans travel to Columbus Thursday, before wrapping up their campaign at home versus Maryland on Sunday.
