Michigan Football: Breaking down commitment of 4-star QB
After a longer wait than expected, Michigan football was finally able to land a quarterback commitment from the 2022 recruiting class.
Michigan football has found its QB of the class of 2022 as Jayden Denegal has committed to the Wolverines.
Denegal had been projected to Michigan State prior to that but on Wednesday, he went on a visit to Ann Arbor and had a workout today in front of Jim Harbaugh and offensive coordinator Josh Gattis. Things went well, he received an offer and committed soon after.
What is Michigan football is getting in four-star QB
Jayden is a 6-foot-5 215-pound signal-caller out of Apple Valley, California. He’s ranked by 247 sports as the 19th best QB in the 2022 class and also the 19th best player in California, as well as the 267th-best player overall.
Here’s a look at what 247sports had to say about him following a recent workout:
"“He throws a nice ball, spins it well, and showed nice accuracy Sunday and a catchability to his throws. He does tend to release the ball a little early his motion at times, which can make the ball sail a little once in a while. His arm strength is good — on the higher end — while he showed nice touch and feel for when to take something off.”"
Denegal was just fresh off a visit to East Lansing yesterday and came to Ann Arbor today. Michigan State has been highly targeting other QB’s in the class and it seems that they backed away from Jayden after missing out on a couple of quarterbacks that committed elsewhere.
With Utah commit Nate Johnson and Connor Harrell trending towards North Carolina. This was really a surprising get for the Michigan football staff. It was definitely a concern for Michigan fans and when/if U-M would get a QB commit this class.
I think that it wasn’t a big deal for fans to panic about getting a quarterback this cycle because of the loaded QB room that the Wolverines have right now with Cade McNamara, Texas-Tech transfer Alan Bowman, and highly anticipated five-star true freshman J.J. McCarthy.
All of this while still in the process of looking forward to getting five-star QB Dante Moore (Detroit, Michigan). This was a great grab for the Michigan staff to keep their heads up and keep looking for that guy that can compete at a high level in Ann Arbor.
