It was only a matter of time but Ohio State offered Dante Moore on Tuesday, the top target for Michigan football in the class of 2023.

Michigan football has done a really solid job recruiting in-state quarterback in 2023, Dante Moore. The Wolverines offered him early and have prioritized him.

However, the recruiting abilities of the Michigan football staff will be put to the test as the Ohio State Buckeyes offered Moore on Tuesday. It was expected but it makes this recruitment much more interesting as Moore grew up a fan of OSU.

As the No. 14 overall recruit in the 2023 class, the top player in the state of Michigan, and the third-best quarterback in the country, it was only a matter of time before the Buckeyes jumped in with an offer.

It doesn’t mean this thing is over. In fact, it’s just beginning. The Wolverines had Moore on campus recently during its “Detroit Days” and the staff has built a solid relationship with him, although new quarterbacks coach Matt Weiss still has work to do.

Michigan doesn’t win a lot of recruiting battles against Ohio State, but the Buckeyes were very much a factor in the recruitment of J.J. McCarthy and the Wolverines won out.

The fact that Moore is from Martin Luther King High School in Detroit probably won’t be a huge advantage for the Wolverines, yet the new focus on in-state recruits should help. So would a solid 2022 season, which is maybe the most important thing.

Michigan has its work cut out for it, but don’t count out the Wolverines just yet.

Hopefully, 2023 isn’t a repeat of 2022

As far as 2022 recruiting is concerned, things have not been going well at quarterback. Nate Johnson, a recent top target committed to Utah and another is starting to pick up crystal ball projections for Conner Harrell, another recent visitor.

It’s been that way with target after target. Drew Allar, a quarterback out of Ohio, was another that Michigan offered and was very interested in but committed to Penn State, even though Penn State already had a QB in its class.

Right now, all of Michigan’s eggs are in Moore’s basket for the 2023 class and that’s how it should be. The Wolverines just need to do a better job of closing with the five-star QB, who happens to be the key to their 2023 recruiting class.
