Michigan basketball hosted a key visitor in the 2022 class this week and also picked up a new expert projection for top point guard target Seth Trimble.

The recruiting dead period is finally over and Michigan basketball took no time taking advantage of it as Ty Rodgers, one of the top players in the state of Michigan for 2022 was in Ann Arbor.

Rodgers visited June 1-2 and by all accounts, things went pretty well. Rodgers did recently pick up a crystal ball projection to the Wolverines and there was some idea he could commit during this first visit.

That didn’t happen but Michigan basketball still feels like the leader. Michigan State is making more of a push for Rodgers, but as long as U-M makes him a priority, he’ll be a Wolverine.

Rodgers is ranked 49th overall in the 247 sports composite rankings for 2022 but there are some questions about his shooting and scoring ability.

I’m not overly concerned with that. Rodgers does need to improve as a shooter but I still love his game. He’s tough, he can finish inside and he’s got the ability to defend multiple positions.

Rodgers also plays extremely hard and isn’t going to demand the ball. He’s not going to be one of those guys worried about how many shots he gets each game. Those are all reasons why he made my ideal 2022 class for Michigan and after this first visit, I like U-M’s chances.

Seth Trimble projected to Michigan

I have a harder time saying Michigan basketball leads with four-star point guard Seth Trimble. The 6-foot-3 point guard made a big leap in the Rivals’ rankings recently and is now 34th overall. He’s ranked 77th in the 247 sports composite rankings but that will change soon enough.

Trimble has actually received multiple crystal ball projections to Michigan and now, he’s got a pair of Futurecast picks in from Rivals too. The latest projection comes from Rivals’ analyst Rob Cassidy and here’s what he wrote:

"“Michigan seems confident in its ability to land four-star point guard Seth Trimble. Trimble, who shot up 75 spots to No. 34 overall in the new Rivals150, has long been high on the Wolverines and will visit their campus June 13. He also intends to take officials to North Carolina and Marquette in addition to his trip to Ann Arbor, so what takes place on those trips (along with ensuing ones) could shake things up. For now, however, bet on Michigan.”"

That’s a positive for Michigan fans but there is still a long way to go. Dug McDaniel is another point guard to keep an eye on. He was also given another Michigan crystal ball recently.

My preference at point guard has been Trimble and as his ranking continues to rise, hopefully, Juwan Howard and company can beat out North Carolina for his commitment.
