The dead period is ending soon and it seemed like a good time to look at Michigan basketball’s ideal 2022 recruiting class.

In just over a week, things are about to pick up as far as Michigan basketball‘s 2022 recruiting class is concerned and that’s because the dead period is finally ending.

Recruits haven’t been able to take official visits since before the COVID-19 pandemic. But that will change on June 1 and that’s when Michigan and others should start reeling in 2022 commitments.

Many recruits will want to make decisions before their final high school seasons which start around the same time as the early-signing period in November. A few targets in 2022 have already scheduled official visits in Ann Arbor.

That advances the timeline and looking ahead to Michigan’s 2022 class, one of the biggest questions will be the numbers. As in how many will the Wolverines take?

It seems safe to assume that Brandon Johns, Adrien Nunez, and DeVante Jones will likely be gone after this season, even though they all have an extra year if they choose to use it.

Then it comes down to Hunter Dickinson, Caleb Houstan, and Moussa Diabate. There is always potential for transfers too. But for this exercise, we are going to put the number at five.

And we’ll start our ideal class with the top target on the board.

Jett Howard, 4-star SF

Michigan basketball has offered a bunch of talented prospects in the 2022 class, but one of the best is Juwan Howard’s son Jett.

Jett Howard is a 6-foot-6, top-50 recruit who is an elite shooter. He could play the two or the three for the Wolverines, and not surprisingly, all of his crystal ball projections have him going to U-M. He also seems to be trending towards being a five-star recruit.

Obviously, Juwan should be able to get him to Ann Arbor. Tennessee is recruiting him hard and programs should because he’s an elite scorer. But he also feels like a lock for Ann Arbor.
